Know What Your Length Is

Getting to know what style are you going for.

Firstly get to know what’s the length of your hair.

  • Long
  • Medium long
  • Shoulder
  • Bob
  • Pixie

Knowing your length will let you know which length of style you are actually going for. Don’t just points on the magazine or book saying that you like that style without know what length of your hair is. The hairdresser might tell you either you don’t have the length yet or you have to cut to that length. So what do you say?

Next, knowing your face is the greatest point on customizing the style to suit it. Remember, all cut is specially cuts to its best length – either to get volume, height, frame or texture. If you know this point better than the hairdresser does, point out the bullet point to him/her. This will help them to understand better on what you want them to achieve.

All girl likes long hair, but many of them chose to flat iron it to spaghetti straight. Its simple and the easiest way to maintain compared to other style. So why not? If you were to ask my opinion, I would prefer a natural straight hair rather spaghetti straight. Nowadays I would suggest my client to does this so called Relaxer, which is the name of the chemical process to achieve the natural straight look hair. It is the same process of the Rebonding but Relaxer does not require to flat iron every single strand of hair. As for the result, it appears to be straight and curve according to the head shape. Something like this picture.

SAMPLE - Medium long with long length

This result appears to be very pleasing. It is perfect for those who want to have straight and easy maintenances hair. Visit your hairdresser and ask for Relaxer now!

For those who like something like wave or semi curl is not a bad option either. It brings out the feminine side of the hair. This result suits every single people. It doesn’t matter if you are young or old. People should get away the impression of being mature or old out from their head. Now we are living in the twenty century. Hairstyle tells the people on how good you look, not on how old you look. Do not let the age be the main factor to stop from trying it. Consult with the hairdresser on which curl are u expecting, let the hairdresser point out the point to you. If you have picture, bring it and show it. Let the picture do the speaking. To make things easier, use alphabet like S or C to represent the curl or wave. Imagine on how many of S you will need to get your desire wave. Simple as that! Even primary school knows that.

However, for your knowledge, perm is just a perm. You will achieve the desire curve, but not the desire style. Have you ever seen a hairstyle book that just shows you the perm but not the finishing look? Now that make sense, because we perm it to achieve the curl that we want, and we style it accordingly to how we want it to look like for the finishing. On an easy day, u just wears the hair plainly with ponytails, comb up, tuck back ears and loose.

On the other hand when you are attending any dinner or functions, just style it a little glam.

I adore looking at Japanese people with their own signature anime hairstyle. Young Japanese women hairstyle looks very elegant and cute

While young Japanese men hairstyle looks really cool.

The Japanese hair is always linked with a unique look. There are many ideas for Japanese hairstyles. The Asian hair is very porous so it is a good feature as it can hold different hairstyles. In the past, Asian hairstyles did not normally stand out. Many times Asian hairstyles were done to match other cultures’ hairstyles but that has changed in the not too distant past. Several different styles will now come based off the high quality that is Asian hair. Hair tends to be thick and is very straight. If you are a man and wants to go beyond medium length, you should look at layering your hair (better not to go beyond shoulder length most times). A guy also can do many different textured looks, whether he like short or medium length hair. For anyone who likes to class it up a bit but remain with the traditional look, short textured hair is a good choice. This works especially well if you want to remain within the confines of socially acceptable for a conservative working professional but remain cool. Going shoulder length should dictate that you layer your hair and this can give you a preppy look as a result. Medium length hair is best as textured and can project an image of someone who is modest but takes care of his looks. If you are a younger Asian male and want to push the edges, you may want to do messy spiky hair. This hairdo has more of an urban theme to it and completely pushes the borders on what these hairstyles are all about. Asian hairstyles are very popular among teenage girl’s especially Japanese Anime haircuts.

If you are running out of ideas on how to style your hair or want a brand new look, you may wanna get some ideas from Japanese hairstyles. The Japanese hairstyle varies, from extraordinarily unclothed to adroit and grassland. The displace bangs closing is the main blow up of Japanese hairstyle. Most women hairstyle is the layered, explicitly down covering the faces to incision a mystifying look. It also has never been out of style since the public eyes caught the Anime inspired Japanese hairstyles.

SPICE UP THE LOOK OF YOURS TODAY

Update Your ‘Do In an Instant

Change is good, but it’s even better when it takes only moments to make one.

If you like your’do but its looking a little dated, there’s no reason to agonize over making a major change. There are tons of quick tricks for taking your style from staid to stellar. First up the fastest five around.

  1. Try out new hair accessories. Headbands are hot and the newest clips and barrettes shows off your fashion sense. Today, nighttime clips look smart even during the day.

  1. Change you part and alter your look. Pair hair on the opposite side from which it naturally falls and you’ll get extra fullness instantaneously. Add a zigzag part that’s strong or pull pieces across with your pinkies to create a tousled, no-part-at-all look You can even brush hair straight back from the hairline for no part at all.

  1. Tuck hair behind your ear or bring it forward, onto your face. This also shifts the shape.

  1. Twist hair up. If your hair is chin-length or longer, comb it straight up, twist a few times, then coil up and pin high on your head. Use bobby pins to clip up the shorter strays at the nape or iron curl them for softening effect. If you good at working your mane, you can leave some strands out for a freedom feeling.

  1. Use different styling products. Now that you are comfortable making small changes, experiment with other thermal tools. For straight hair, try quick tricks with hot rollers or curling irons. Add a little root lift, then progress to creating a whole new look by spiral setting locks

Lots of new ideas give your hair edgy appeal. A quick touch-up with a curling iron and your ends have bends. Follow through with products that creates separation by running them through the ends.

If you have naturally curly hair and frizz, there may be easy ways to straighten

it, depending on how tight is the curl. For a texture transformation, you can

quickly flat-iron locks in large section-there is no need to make it super-straight. Or simply roll every single strand of hair with Velcro roller and leave it over night. In the morning, just remove the roller and brush through. You’ll be surprise to see the result yourself. No FRIZZ.

WORKING IT

Whether your hair is straight or curly, you braid it or create various type of updo’s. Braid just a few section of the hair or all your hair; put some hair up and some pieces down. If your hair is too short to simulate an updo, add a faux piece. Today you can get the clip-in pieces in any length to add color, or opt for full-fledged braids or hair wefts to get a long lock instantly. They are all at your local beauty supply store.

Another way to make the hair look more modern is with hair colour. Temporary colors are great for reflecting moods of the moment – just remember that the brighter the artificial shades, the less likely it will be truly temporary.

Face Shape

FIND YOUR PERFECT LENGTH FOR SHORT STYLE

• Oval - Lucky you, your face shape is especially great for short cuts. That is because it is proportional and balanced. Choices include super-short crops - especially if your face is petite – bobs, chops, flips and the new full-fringed cuts. Bangs are a great option regardless of your cut; just don’t make it too long you will change your perfect proportions. Etc: Victoria Beckham

• Round – If your cheek is round and wide or your face is wider than its long, you are roundie. Because the proportions of your face are too wide, longer hair slenderizes your look. Keep hair below the ears and get a style that moves forward onto your cheekbones. Super-short cuts aren’t for you. Also, skip solid bangs; seek out soft feathery instead. If your face is full and round, look for styles that draw the eye upward. Etc : Hayden Panettiere

• Oblong or elongated oval – If your chin is too long or out of proportions with your forehead, the illusion of width fixes things. Get a short cut with fullness at the sides; avoid top volume. Depending on how long your face is, you may need to stick with cuts that fall below the jaw line. Etc : Hillary Duff

• Square – Is your face wider than its long? Wear your hair short and rounded. Do you have a strongly squared jaw line? Create a slimming effect by wearing hair somewhat longer than chin length. Also, opt for style that are full, not flat, on top. Layers always soften the features of this strong facial shape, and cuts that feature angled sides will be just right. Etc : Alexa Chung

• Heart-Shaped – This face shape is wider than long, with most of the width at the forehead. Wear hair longer than chin length or have it layered to add fullness at your narrower chin. Best bets; bangs! They conceal that too-wide forehead and they are a must-have if you go shorter than chin length. Etc : Mary-Kate Olsen

• Pear-Shaped – This face is too wide at the jaw line and chin, so hair has to be longer. A super-short crop will make you look like a pinhead! Pear-shaped faces have the opposite problem of the heart-shaped face. Expose your forehead by wearing hair back or by growing out your bangs. This draws the eye up, away from the jaw line. A jaw-length blunt cut is the least flattering style if you the square, heart-shaped or pear-shaped face.

WHATS NEXT?

Your own comfort zone is the major issue. Short style is easier to style when its super- short, but the trade-off is options. If you want them, don’t go above the ear lobe or ask about fringes and layers that allow versatility with shorter looks. Also, do go so short that you can comb-and-go but nothing else.
The last big issue is texture. Think about how curly hair looks cut short. When you remove the weight, you could release more natural movement. If your hair is bulky, wavy or tightly curled, it might demand a specific short cut for control, such as one with layers. Fine hair always looks better shorter, thanks to the thickening illusion. For this type of hair, blunt cuts, boobs and crops are the best.
If have never been good at styling your hair, simple short cut are ideal. Avoid complicated layers, graduated looks ones that demand daily blow-drying. If you like trying out new styles, mid length to jaw-length cuts with layering are your best bets.

While you are getting a new cut for the season, why not change your color at the same time? Not only will enhance your new look, it’ll add body, plus the illusion of fullness and shine. Sleek texture take on stunning shine with color on the monochromatic side, while textured cuts are best enhanced with splashes, highlights and lowlights.
Now that you’ve got a new color, check out the latest make-up shades. Nothing sends a girl on a shopping expedition like a new sexy short cut.

Some handy words for hairdresser to know

COLOUR TERMS

Know the colour effect you want, but have no idea how to explain it or what it’s called?
Learn the lingo and you’ll be talking like a pro in no time.

Highlights and Lowlights
A highlight is a streak of colour lighter than your usual shade, while lowlight is darker or richer .Highlights are great for natural-looking colour and don’t necessarily have to be blonde

Tone-on-tone

Also known as demis, glosses, quasi or cosmetic colour, these use peroxide to give a longer lasting effect (around 21 washes). They will not lighten your hair and there’s no obvious root regrowth, as the colour fades gradually.

Permanent

Also called dye, tint, professional colour, crème colour or global colour, these colour is mixed with different amounts of hydrogen peroxide to colour your hair permanently and can lighten your natural tone by up to three levels.

Panelling
Here, slabs of colour are applied to the hair, using foils (not woven as highlights, lowlights or weaving). Different layers of colour are used and the technique often gives a dramatic high fashion finish.

Weave
A great alternative to highlights if you want to colour sections of your hair. Hairdressers weaves out some of the hair to colour and leaves the rest natural. The strength of the result depends on if you have fine or chunky weaves.

Halo Lights
Highlights, but not in the traditional sense .The term refers to the placement of the highlights – usually in a T-shapes section on top of the hair. This creates a flattering glow around the face and its great way to ‘lift’ your style

Pre-lightener
Also known as bleach and lightening crème, this is used to get really blonde hair. Its mixed peroxide and can lighten your hair by up to five shades. You then tone the hair with the desired colour, as lighteners don’t contains colour.

Dip-dyeing

Inspired by the art of dip-dyeing clothes, this is where just the very ends of your hair is coloured with either subtle or vibrant tones. For dramatic results, go for a contrasting colour like a pillar-box red ends on dark-brown hair.

Hidden colour

Sections of hair are taken from underneath and coloured, which makes office-to-party hair easy to achieve. Clip your locks into a pony, or pin the top section of your hair up to reveal the hidden drama in the under layers.

CUTTING TERMS

Hairdressers have a language all of their own. Learn the basics and you’ll know what your stylist’s planning to do with your hair before they even pick up the scissors.

Talk about it…
Communication is the key when it comes to getting your hair cut. If you are asking for an “inch” off, makes you both clear about how much you mean. Be prepared to compromise on length if you want to enhance your hair condition.

Slide Cutting
This technique is good for softening strong face shapes, like a square jaw, as it creates a haircut with wispy or feathered finish. Its great for creating texture and removing weight from thick hair, but steer clear if you’ve got fine or curly hair.

Graduation

This is a type of layering where the hair is cut progressively shorter towards the back. Its mostly used on bobs. Where the hair at the front is left longer, working round to shorter lengths. It works best on fine to medium straight or curly hair.

Slicing

Slicing leaves the hair with a textured, feathered finish. It involves sliding the scissors through the hair without closing the blade completely. It’s not great for fine hair or curls – its best on medium to thick hair, adding shapes, definition and softness.

Razoring
It’s the most common and effective way of reducing weight on naturally thick hair by thinning out the bulk. Razoring also creates texture, and softness making it perfect for adding movement to straight hair and softening strong face shapes.

Point cutting

Here, the points of the scissors are use to break up the blunt lines in a haircut. Stylist will often finish the ends with point cutting to prevent the style from looking too blunt. The finished styling can be fine or chunky and suits all faces and hair types.

Layering
Layers can reduce weight in thick hair or add movement and body to fine hair. The length will depend on the look you are going for. Layers gives long hair shape and style without losing the length, while long layers on a crop give it added versatility.

Hair LOSS

HAIR LOSS

Just thinking about hair loss can make you anxious. Suspecting you are actually losing hair far worse. You loose some hair everyday, of course: about 70 to 100 strands, out of a total 100,000 to 150,000. it may take a loss of up to 70 percent of normal hair for even medically trained eye to diagnose a true thinning condition. Here’s the 411 on hair loss you need to know.

HAIR GROWTH CYCLE
Hair follicle go through three stages of development:
• The Anagen (growth) phase lasts anywhere from two to six years. Hair grows approximately one-half to one inch a month. The hair shaft is thickest during the anagen phase.
• The Catagen (resting) phase lasts just a few weeks.
• The Telogen (shedding) phase usually lasts five to six weeks. New hair begins to grow, and the telogen hair is shed and replaced. Telogen hair is very fine.

CAUSES OF HAIR LOSS
If you suspect your hair is thinning, you should talk to your dermatologist, who may have better knowledge of the causes than your regular physician. The most common include:
• Female-pattern alopecia ( female pattern hair loss, the most common cause of thinning hair of women )
• Thyroid disease
• Severe anemia
• Lupus
• Side effects from a prescription drug
• Hormonal imbalance
• Zinc, Iron, Protein or biotin deficiency
• Traction alopecia ( physical trauma to the hair shaft )

TREATMENT
There are many options to choose from when fighting hair loss and your dermatologist can recommend one that is right for you. Some formulas you might hear:
FNS Follicle Nutrient Serum - Contains natural ingredients said to stimulate hair growth.
Nizoral Shampoo - May provide some benefits to women with female-pattern alopecia.
Rogaine - A tropical medication that helps trigger growth of hair. Women should stick with the 2% formula to minimize growth of hair elsewhere (like the face)
Propecia - A prescription medication taken once a day to help regrow recently lost hair and slow or stop hair loss.
Flutamide – A prescription medication that can help reduce the female-pattern alopecia.
Minimize Physical Trauma – Not a product but an action. Minimizing the use of daily hot roller, blow dryer, flat irons and chemical application can reduce the trauma on the hair shaft and help minimize hair loss.

HAIR BREAKAGE OR HAIR LOSS?
Many people mistake breakage for hair loss, but there is a distinct difference. Hair loss is a medical condition; hair breakage is not. Follow these steps to keep your hair intact and looking healthy to avoid breakage.
Shampoo – Make sure your routine shampoo says its pH-balanced and avoid those that are alkaline. Alkaline shampoo strip the hair’s natural oils and disrupt the acid mantle, causing dehydration and leading to porous, fragile hair.

Hot-Oil Treatments
Hot-oil treatments have become very popular. However, the very heat that causes them to penetrate the hair shaft can also lead to further damage of the hair. Over time, the continued excessive heat exposure will cause the hair to become weaker. Stick with regular conditioners or hair mask.

Leave-in Conditioner/Treatment
Consider the routine use the leave-in conditioner/treatment or detangler. Typically applied after towel drying, these help reduce trauma and breakage when you comb through wet hair.

Tips For Great Hair

Tips for Creating Great Hair

You are probably wondering how celebrities look so gorgeous all the
time. How does their hair always look so perfect and well
conditioned?

What’s the Secret?

Well the secret is in the tools, the products and the stylist.
You can create these looks at home, and one of the best tips is:-
The less time you spend on it the better it will look. Now you are
probably wondering how, but if you think it takes 8-20mins to
straighten your hair, you may start to believe me. I want to give
you some great tips that you can use at home that will help you to
look even better. These tips come not only from personal
experiences but also from the celebrity stylists, who help to create a
great red carpet look. So here we go, read on for the ultimate in
celebrity hair tips.

Create Great Curls
If you have just bought yourself some very expensive straighteners,
or you are thinking about it, why not consider the idea of curling
your hair with straighteners? You can get more controllable curls
which are far easier to manage than your natural hair is!
Try:-
1. Make sure that your hair is semi-straight, or if not straighten it.

2. Spray on some heat-protection spray and then divide your hair
into sections. The fewer the number of sections the tighter the curls
will be.

3. Take the straightener and clamp it over the top of the section,
then whilst pulling down the straighteners turn the straightener
round. To produce a tighter curl clamp harder with the straighteners
and pull harder when you bring it down.

4. Do not brush your hair after you have done this, but simply tease
through with your fingers. And add some shine spray. Another way
to curl your hair that always creates great celebrity styles hair effect
is to use some Heated rollers (which is my favorite ). The type of rollers that you should get
should depend on how long and thick your hair is, and how tight the
curl that you want to achieve is.

I would recommend for short thin hair to use a straightener (the
above method) or tongs, for thick medium length hair to use some
medium sized heated rollers and for really long hair I would use
some very large Velcro rollers. Try using these on wet hair and then
drying off with a hair dryer.

Many celebrities will have plenty of deep conditioning treatments at
their salon before the big event. These treatments will vary from
Damage Restructuring to Deep Conditioning and Detoxifying. There
are plenty of high street products out there that are suitable for
home use and you can pick them up on the high street for
reasonable prices. I would always recommend that you look on the
back and see the list of ingredients, the more chemicals it has in it,
the worse it will be for your hair in the long run.

Indeed for a special event such as a prom or a ball, why not go
down to your local hairdresser or beauty salon and have a hair wrap
or mask? These may be quite expensive but will definitely get you
the look that you desire and it’s worth treating yourself for a special
event.

Always check with the salon about which treatment they think will
be right for you, because not all of them will be suitable for your
hair type.

Dazzling Colour

Another important thing about your hairstyle is the colour. The
richer and deeper the colour, the healthier you will look and the
more attractive you will appear, it’s a well-acknowledged fact. So if
you haven’t already booked an appointment at your local salon to
have a colour analysis, or follow these steps to the perfect celebrity
look-a-like hair colour:
Firstly look at your natural hair colour; does it seem lifeless and dull?
Take a long look at your hair in the mirror and look at your friends
and work colleagues- also don’t forget to ask your hair stylist for
advice.
The next step is to determine your own hair colour if you don’t
already know this. If you are a lady, a good tip to remember is that
men can often be the best judge of hair colour, because they can
sometimes be more objective.
Once you have worked out what your hair colour is, try thinking of
shades that is really rich in your mind but sticking to your own
colour palette.
For example, if your hair is a dark blonde colour, but also has some
dark brown and red strands in there, colours that would work for
you would be reds and browns.
I would always recommend trying colours that are slightly darker
than your normal shade, and always try colours that are redder
than your normal shade.
If you are an Asian, the above won’t be applicable. Asians have
naturally black hair and will look good in one shade or even many
shades lighter; of course natural black hair is also a fashion trend
these days. Opt for medium hair tones like dark brown, light brown,
cashmere, auburn, violet etc. Your skin tone will also affect what
colour will suit you. If you are very fair, you will look good in darker
tones and vice-versa. Unless you are a real celebrity, try to avoid
blonde or very light yellow or golden tones, as these colours tend to
look weird and unnatural on Asians, not to mention that these hair
colours are shunned and mostly unacceptable in schools and
workplaces.
If you want to dye your hair yourself, try some wash-in wash-out
formulas before you commit to a permanent colour.
(You can get it from the beauty&hair supplier) This way you
can be sure of the colour and whether it suits you. The usual
recommendation is just to go one shade darker each time. Also, if
you just want to look good for one special evening you can then use
one of these formulas and not permanently change your colour, but
still look astounding.

Perfect Nutrition = Perfect Hair
You may have heard this many times before, but a healthy diet is
really important if you want to have great hair. The stars that look
the best are the ones that eat the right foods and focus on a good
diet. Gwyneth Paltrow and Heidi Klum are great examples and look
great without starving themselves or resorting to strange diets.
There are a few key things that you need to make sure you get
enough of that will help your hair look at its best. The first is to drink
plenty of water, this gives the hair its shine and without enough it
can leave your hair lank and frizzy. The usual recommendation is
eight glasses a day, but don’t stick rigidly to this, just drink as much
as you can.

Secondly, protein is really important to your hair as this is what it’s
made of, so be sure to eat enough dairy and meat products.

Minerals like iron, zinc and copper are also really important. The
Iron - helps deliver oxygen to your hair to keep it alive and fresh
looking, so eat plenty of red meat and dark green veggies.
Zinc - effective in keeping the hair strong, and prevents the hair
falling out; it can be found in seafood and meat.
Copper - really important in maintaining the colour of your hair,
and enough of this will really give your hair colour a boost, so make
sure you eat enough shellfish, seeds and fresh vegetables.
Vitamins - effective in maintaining a good scalp and a great
overall condition of your hair, especially vitamins A, B and C. These
can be found in fruits and vegetables.

A great hair secret is the sweet potato, which is full of vitamins A
and B and other great nutrients which will give your hair great life
and body.

Straighteners – How to create Perfect Hair
To create the perfect look for your hair, choose to straighten your
hair. The effect of ceramic straightening means that the follicles on
your hair lie straighter and therefore reflects more light, making it
look healthy and a beautiful colour.

1. Spray a heat-protective spray in your hair, this insures very little
damage is done o your hair. Be sure to spray over the entire length
of your hair.
2. Fully dry hair using a blow dryer. Make sure that you blow
downwards, this is so the you can keep the cuticles lying flat, thus
leaving your hair shinier, because more light can reflect from your
hair.
3. Comb through your hair with a wide-toothed comb, so as not to
create static in your hair. Keep this comb for the next part.
4. Separate your hair into sections. Depending on the thickness of
your hair you may end up having created between 4 and 10
sections. Start with the hair closest to your neck. and work up to
the top. You will find that the more sections you have the straighter
your hair will be in the end.
5. Once you have your first section, turn on your hair straighteners.
Starting at the top pull the straighteners down towards the floor. Do
this fairly slowly. The slower you go the straighter it will be and the
longer it will stay in. But also the slower you go the more damage
you cause to you hair.
6. Once your first section is straight, continue until all the hair is
completed.
7. If you are happy with your look, then spray some shine spray
over all your hair. If not, continue straightening your locks until you
achieve desired effect, please remember that straighteners can also
create curls and waves, and so be creative.

HOW TO GET SILKY & SHINY HAIR

• Shiny hair is the result of smooth hair cuticles. From the microscope view, the cuticle looks alike the fish scale. The scale flows only on one direction. Correct? Because of that, you will the shine from the scale. So always direct the hot air from the hairdryer down the hair shaft – this will encourage the cuticle to lie flats. Hairdryer with narrow nozzle provides directed channel for the hot air to dry the hair into silky style.
• It’s important to let your hair indulge in the deep-conditioning treatment time by time. This will revitalize your hair and gives it nourishing essential oil.
• For those with dry & frizzy hair, a guaranteed way to get glamorous & gleaming result is to use straightening iron or hot tongs. If you are tired with these tools, visit your hairdresser for hair relaxing technique. This will ease the pain of you from blow dry it 30mins to 10mins. Woalah..!

• Listen to the advice that given by the colourist or stylist and don’t be afraid to ask any question if you’re still in doubt. If you are going for big change, think about the implications in the terms of time and money well in advance.
• Remember, you don’t have to leave the salon with the latest trend – finding a style that suits you is what counts. If you’ve got your heart set on a hairstyle, explain this to your stylist and they will find a way of making it work by customizing the look.
( only if your stylist is committed and have passion on the field )
